Here is the latest update on Carol Reetz. Please keep the good thoughts flowing. Larry knows that we are praying for Carol and for him also. I'm sure Larry will ask if he needs anything else and we should all be ready to jump at the chance to help in any of his needs.
Remember Carol in your thoughts as you prepare to bring in the New Year next week.

Subject: Carol Reetz Updated 122707 PM
It is Thursday afternoon, 12/27/07 and I wish I had good news for everyone.
I had meeting about 1 p.m. today with the neurologist and a pulmonary physician. We discussed the MRI that was done yesterday and the response that Carol has presented since they removed the medicine that has kept her sedated.
First, the MRI indicates that the infection has worsened. It is in the right lobe. There isn't any specific treatment guidelines that the doctors are following as each patient with viral encephalitis is unique. They spoke of using some specific steroids to help stimulate the brain in an attempt to get her to respond to voice command.
She is very concerned of the long term effects of the infection. Her feeling is that Carol will probably have long term mental disabilities and possibly be affected with seizures as well. Only time will tell.
The pulmonary doctor has been watching Carol for most of the past week. He indicated today that soon, within the next few days they would have to remove the breathing tube. However, it would not go away completely. They are going to have to put in a traechyotomy (sp) for further assistance with her breathing. This isn't without the possibility of other complications, but is considered the best course of action for Carol right now.
Carol is not responding to any voice suggestion at this time. She does respond to physical stimulation and will open her eyes to anything the nurses or doctors to her that makes her uncomfortable. When she does open her eyes it is with a view primarily to the left. This is only for a few seconds and then she drifts back to slumber land. In a way this is good because she is responding to some stimuli.
I have said that I and the family are truly willing to accept the Will of God no matter what that might be. We do know that He is guiding the doctors and providing the wisdom they need to treat Carol. I and my daughters want you all to pray and believe that God is going to do a great work and is going to provide a miracle for us with a total and complete healing of Carol's mind and body!!
In His Name and His Love,
Larry
