Hi, Guys:
Thanks for the anouncement.
I wish I could make it but this is the beginning night of our two-day
concert at Newport Performing Arts Center, in Newport, OR. .
We play at 7:30 tonight (Saturday) and 2:00PM tomorrow (Sunday).Admission is
$ 12.00.
We are using a 17 piece jazz band consisting of five saxes, four trumpets,
four trombones and three rythm plus one singer (Patty George) who is
tremendous. Her dad, Pat George, had his own group in Portland for many years
and plays piano and sings in this band.
Also involved will be the WOM (Women of Note) who with the band's drummer,
Rick LeDeux, will mimic the "Modernaires" that sang with Glenn Miller.
The theme of this year's concert will be big band music from the 1930's,
1940's, 1950's and 1960's. Featured witl be original arrangments of Glenn
Miller (including "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" and "In the Mood". Also featured
will be count Basie's original of "April In Paris" complete with the two
repeats at the end. There will be a medley of Harry James songs with a
tremendous lady vocalist singing "It Seems To Me I've Heard That Song
Before" and "I Cried For You".
Three of the band members haver played in the Harry James band including the
director David Hutson who played lead alto sax with James and leads the
band. John Bringhetto and Tom Holden also played trumpet with James. The
rest of the band is made up of notables from all around the Western US, from
Eugene, Salem, and Corvallis, to Las Vegas.
Hope some of you can make it. This is the big one of the year. If you like
nostalgia, this is for you.
Dick Dewey
