Applications are now open for the 2007 Doug Saxton Memorial Scholarship.
The application form is online at http://www.tvcb.org/scholarshipapp.html.

The Tualatin Valley Community Band established the Doug Saxton Memorial
Scholarship Fund in 1997 after the sudden and unexpected death of Doug
Saxton, the band's first president and a founding member of the clarinet
section. We also honor Kara Zander, a young clarinet player who was just
beginning her adult life until a tragic accident in 2002.

Doug was a strong believer in education, and Kara was training to become a
teacher. We believe that this scholarship is the most appropriate way for
us to honor the memories of our friends.

The Saxton Memorial Scholarship is open to anyone who:
* Is a graduating high school senior,
* Is a member, past member, or son or daughter of a member of the TVCB,
* Is currently participating in a music program,
* Plans to attend college in the fall,
* Has demonstrated an ongoing interest in music,
* Expresses a desire to continue an interest in music.

Grades are a minor consideration. Financial need is not a consideration.
Applications are due by April 1, and the committee will announce its
decisions by May 1. PLEASE NOTE that for publicity purposes, we will need
a JPEG head shot of each application to be submitted with the application.

We had no applicants in 2006, so we are looking forward to a busy
application month in 2007!
