On Thursday, August 16, The Oregon Symphonic Band under the direction of
Michael Burch-Pesses will make its third consecutive appearance at
Hillsboro's Shute Park to close its summer concert series. We will perform
two concerts, the first at 7:00 pm and the second at 8:10 pm, and the
musical fare is designed to appeal to everyone's tastes.
If you like marches, you'll hear five of them, from Sousa's "Fairest of the
Fair" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever" to the famous "National Emblem
March."
If you like show tunes, sit back and enjoy "Phantom of the Opera" and "Man
of La Mancha."
If classic overtures are your cup of tea, you'll certainly like "The Light
Cavalry Overture." Also on the bill will be "Beautiful Oregon," the work we
commissioned to celebrate our twentieth anniversary.
Sprinkled throughout the two programs will be such gems as Leonard
Bernstein's "The Wrong Note Rag," a medley of barn dance tunes, some
Canadian folk songs, and a collection of American patriotic songs.
We will also have our latest CD available for purchase, a special collection
of works that we performed in December at the prestigious Midwest Band
Clinic in Chicago. This professionally recorded disc really shows the band
at its peak, and is a bargain at only $10.00!
The admission is free, so bring a picnic basket and a big blanket, and join
us in concert for this gala event. We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
The Oregon Symphonic Band
