Applications are now being accepted for the 2008 Doug Saxton Memorial
Scholarship.
Doug Saxton was a clarinet player in the TVCB for many years. He was
instrumental in getting the band incorporated, and served as the first
board president, until he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in 1997.
We decided this scholarship fund would be the best way to keep the memory
of our friend alive.
In 2002, clarinetist Kara Zander was just starting out in life on her
own as a teacher, when she was a casualty in a tragic accident. We
remember both of these band members through the scholarship.
The Doug Saxton Memorial Scholarship is open to anyone who
* Is a graduating high school senior,
* Is a member, past member, or son or daughter of a member of the band,
* Is participating in a music program in high school,
* Plans to attend college in the fall,
* Expresses an intent to continue their interest in music in college.
Grades are a minor consideration. Financial need is not a consideration.
There is a link in the left-hand index of the TVCB's web page to the
application form. Applications are due by April 1. The committee will
announce its decision by May 1.
